Dookie Review- A Solid Punk Rock Album

Dookie is a solid punk rock album that has many influential and well written songs, but also has uninspired boring 2 minute tracks. There are many redeeming factors regarding Dookie's production on each song, but there are some stupid lyrical themes that don't add to the albums comedic elements.

Green Day has solid production on Dookie's tracklist. The guitars, basses, and drums all compliment each other and create fantastic punk rock beats for the most part. The first 3 and last 3 tracks on Dookie are not really unique and most bars are a punk rock nuisance. These songs are on the shorter side and they are not terrible listens, but are uninteresting and are produced to an ok standard. The themes of boredom, anxiety and relationships are well symbolised in most tracks. The production compliments these themes for the most part and creates a great sense of these ideas. The tracks that represent these ideas the best are the ones with the most inspired production as well. These tracks are Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case, When I Come Around, as well as a few more. These tracks encapsulate the tone of the album perfectly and accentuate the themes I mentioned above.

Lyrical components on Dookie are very good for the most part. The themes I stated in the above paragraph are fantastically written in the songs that I also mentioned above. The versatility of the themes Billi Joe Armstrong sings about are very solid. His delivery creates a sense that you are feeling these emotions. The lyrics that add to the storytelling are also good the majority of the time. Longview perfectly expresses how boring, repetitive and bland life can be. Basket case is a great representation of anxiety, heartbreak and paranoia, creating a track that leads into each theme, while telling a solid story. When I Come Around's lyricism fantastically depicts how fake life and love can be. Welcome to Paradise has great lyrics which portray the world as a dirty, trashy and lousy place where you have to cope to survive. There are a couple of other songs with solid lyrical elements, but the other songs have uninspired lyrical themes.

Dookie is a solid punk rock album. Green Day created many memorable and iconic tracks in Dookie, but the amount of tracks that are basically cliche punk rock songs can't be ignored. There are a few bad and mediocre tracks, but the rest of the album remains consistently good. Dookie is a great listen for anyone who enjoys punk rock.
