Like? is an EP by Ice Spice. This EP fails in lyricism, it has good production and flows are fine as well. I believe Ice Spice has potential as a rapper and if she capitalises on her fame and creates lyrics, with deeper meaning or at least more versatility she will be able to shine as one of the best female rappers. There is improvements Ice Spice can make, but there was some enjoyment you can have in this album.
The mainly Bronx Drill centred production is good for the most part and creates enjoyable listens that are good to vibe with and just listen to casually. The production does not vary much and is very similar for most songs. The repetitiveness of production does not make any of the new songs stand out as much as Ice's 3 best singles from last year. Due to it being a well paced EP that beats do not get too annoying. There are 3 of Ice Spice's most popular singles In Ha Mood, Munch and Bikini Bottom, from 2022 that she added to this EP. These are lyrically terrible, but the production makes them fun, enjoyable bangers to listen to. Ice Spice's flows are fine for the most part, but they remain the same in every song and lack variety. The only feature, Lil Tjay, is fine but not really interesting in any way. Production is repetitive and slightly bland, Lil Tjay is boring, but the some beats are good for a casual listen.
There is not much to say when it comes to Ice's lyrics. There is not much versatility on what Ice Spice raps about, but if she changes to a comedic approach like in a song I will mention below, or write deeper meaning lyrics, she could be a better rap lyricist. The only topics she focuses on is men, her body and sometimes she mentions money. Her lyrics have no meaning or intention, other than talking about herself. In many ways it is vain and annoyingly repeated. Luckily the EP only has 6 tracks causing it not to take that long. The song that has the best lyrics is Princess Diana, as it also has a couple of somewhat comedic verses. Her delivery is also unvaried is not really interesting. There is no changes in any way she delivers her lyrics and that also adds a factor of 'sameness' throughout this EP. What I mean by sameness, is that it just feels like the songs are all too similar. These issues are prominent throughout the EP and can be fixed if Ice Spice adds more lyrical depth to her work.
Although I had many issues and problems with this EP, I do think it can be enjoyable to listen to. There are a few of just enjoyable, mindless bangers that are easy to listen to. The album is short and I think if it was longer I would have been a worse listen. If Ice Spice can focus on her lyrical talent she could definitely be considered one of the best female rappers. As for now Like? is a majorly flawed and slightly enjoyable EP.
