Pulp Fiction Review- An Unconventional Masterpiece
Pulp Fiction is an unconventional masterpiece. I cannot understate how good the movie is, it has a structure that allows you to piece together the film as you continue, there are some of the best conversations I have ever seen in a film and every character is different and interesting.
This film focuses on a few characters these include Jules and Vincent the two gangsters working for their boss Marsellus, Marsellus' wife Mia, Butch a boxer trying to get out of the crime business and even Tarantino himself at one point. Every single charcter in this movie have a different and interesting relationship with one another causing conversations to have more of an impact than most films. Tarantino's unconventional structure of telling this story is fantastic and by the end you have to piece it all together and work out what order the movie plays out. The way he structured it actually ties in to the main themes of escaping, leaving or staying in a life of crime and how it can spiral. There are other themes Tarantino delves into and it only works because of the structure. Tarantino's creativeness in structure and character peaked in Pulp Fiction.
Every moment in this movie ties into greater themes and concepts, but also does it subtly. The cinematography while characters speak to one another helps you realise the conversation tone and gives you an even deeper insight into characters. The soundtrack also suits this movie perfectly. The structure creates fantastic pacing. The over the top violence Tarantino is known for is included, but there are more disturbing moments than just overly violent, which in the long run impacts the viewer more. The creativity of the plot and characters causes this movie to be one of the most interesting at the very least.
Overall, Pulp Fiction is basically a perfect film. It is creative and unique, with one of the best structured stories and most interesting characters who converse about strange but oddly normal topics, which causes characterisation to peak. Pulp Fiction is truly a masterpiece and is one of the best movies of all time.
