Resident Evil 2 (Remake) Review- Classic Horror Revived

Resident Evil 2 is a remake that should be looked as the standard for remakes. It is has perfect horror elements with survival factors that create a tense and terrifying game. There are many zombie games that do not capture the horror of zombies, but Resident Evil 2 creates a perfect sense of horror.

The plot occurs when Leon Kennedy, a police man on his first day of duty, and Claire Redfield, a girl looking for her brother, meet each other in Racoon City. They realise a zombie apocalypse is starting, so they go to the police station for help, but soon realise if they want to survive, they have to escape. There are a few side characters you meet along the way who are interesting in their own ways, but the story is not the main point of Resident Evil 2. There are 2 campaigns one where you play as Leon and the other where you play as Claire. These campaigns tell different stories that tie in together at their beginnings and ends. The campaigns are a good for replay value, but there are not enough changes in the campaigns. Both campaigns feel repeated and there are not many changes in either, which there should be. The story is mostly told through gameplay, as avoiding zombies and solving puzzles are the main ways the story is told. It is conveyed as a stressful situation that these characters need to escape.

The gameplay loop involves, solving puzzles to advance, collecting ammo and items, avoiding as well as shooting zombies and avoiding Mr X, a Tyrant Model that stalks after the protagonists. The gameplay listed above is consistently enjoyable and challenging. Zombies are challenging as they test ammo preservation, dodging them, and using bombs as well as knives to defend yourself. The zombie enemy types are varied as there are normal zombies, lickers, plant monster and more. Mr X is not scary and is more annoying than anything, but this is only a small issue. The puzzles themselves are challenging, but enjoyable causing the gameplay loop to be even more varied. The characters have safe rooms to save in and item boxes to store items, if there are not enough slots to carry anything. The exploration is fantastic as you are rewarded for going into different areas. Just say you find a locker code, you look for that locker and you can be rewarded with a very beneficial item, such as a different gun. The gameplay loop is basically perfect other than some minor things that can be irritating.

The remake of Resident Evil 2 is fantastic, as it delves into its survival horror roots causing a tense and horrifying experience. Other than some issues with how the different play throughs are barely changed and some minor annoyances, the game creates a perfect survival horror experience.
