Top Gun: Maverick is one of the best sequels and action movies of all time. It gets many things right but its practical action scenes is what peaks in this movie. There are many reasons Top Gun: Maverick is a triumph for cinema and I will explain why.

40 or so years after the original Top Gun, this sequel tells a simple, but well told story of Pete Mitchell, code name 'Maverick', teaching a new generation of pilots how to fight and bomb enemy forces. There are many references to the original Top Gun and even many emotional moments for Maverick himself. I will not spoil anything, but the story being simple makes it slightly boring at times, and some characters are not well developed, but it is mostly to this movies benefit. The simplicity makes it more emotional and heartfelt causing audiences to have an enjoyable experience.

The action sequences are some of the best I have ever scene. Action sequences are well choreographed and they are always a spectacle to watch as they are in military fighter jets. The acting is completely solid and every character interaction is also enjoyable. Pacing is great and there is always a perfect amount of action, tension, character interaction, emotional and comedic moments. Overall the production values are very high, mainly the memorable fighter jet scenes.

Top Gun: Maverick is an action movie done right. The only issue is that at times the plot and characters seem simple. The production and action scenes themselves have been perfected and will always be memorable. Top Gun: Maverick is the definition of action at it's finest.
