The Chronic Review- The Finest of Classic Rap

The Chronic is a staple in rap history and is one of the best hip-hop albums for a reason. Dr Dre's self produced beats are some of the best of all time and his rhymes are solid as well. The album is overall just well made and it is a classic.

Dr Dre produced all of his beats on The Chronic and all of them are just as good, or even better than the beats he produced in his next album 2001 and Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle LP. Each beat is catchy and replayable. The beat selection and samples are great as they capture the catchiness of the overall LP and the lyrics in the album. The album is well paced and is not bloated, making it easy to listen to in one full playthrough. The hooks are well implemented and create for even more catchiness. The features are all well implemented and add a unique twist each track. The best, most memorable and most featured artist is Snoop Dogg. His involvement in The Chronic can not be understated and compliments the beats perfectly. The only issue I have with production are the interludes/skits as they are slightly boring and there a few too many of them. The most memorable songs have to be Nuthin' but a "G" Thang and Fuck Wit Dre Day, just because how iconic and fantastically produced these songs are. Just because those songs are so iconic, it doesn't detract from the fact that the rest of the tracks are perfectly produced as well.

Dre's lyrics in The Chronic are very solid, but are carried by features such as Snoop Dogg. Most lyrics are upbeat and involve great rhymes. The best and most diverse lines or verses come from Snoop. This doesn't mean Dre has great lines himself, because he does have solid lyrics and they compliment Snoop's ones perfectly. Although there is great lyrics there are a couple of mediocre lines with some ok lyrics, but there were only a couple. Dre and Snoop also have basically perfect flows against Dre's beats. Dre's delivery differs on each track creating some more lay backed delivery to offensive disses. Versatility is varied and there are a multitude of topics Dre focuses on regarding his more laid- back tone of the album overall. There are more aggressive beats and delivery, but most of the album is more chill than aggressive. My favourite songs regarding lyrics are Let Me Ride and Deez Nuts, which even has some comedic elements. The Chronic has great lyrical elements and techniques.

The Chronic is one of the best produced albums of all time. It has solid and fantastic lyrical elements. Although there are a few minor and more nit-picky flaws I have with The Chronic, I belive it to be a masterpiece and a classic rap album.
